Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for new or upgrading of article protection, upload protection, or create protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Reason: Repeated IP edit warring and parts of the article falling under WP:ARBPIA. ~ IvanScrooge98 (talk) 15:53, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. The IP has been blocked since it last disrupted the article several weeks ago. Daniel Case (talk) 21:50, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Reason: High traffic and common amounts of IP vandalism. SleepDeprivedGinger (talk) 16:00, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Most of the IP edits being reverted look to me like good-faith attempts to contribute. Daniel Case (talk) 21:52, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Reason: High level of IP vandalism and new account User_talk:Adarsh_Chinnadan making same disruptive changes of boxoffice number without citing reliable source. Please protect page. IPs and new account have been warned but continue to vandalize again. Please protect page. RangersRus (talk) 17:07, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Automated comment: A request for protection/unprotection for one or more pages in this request was recently made, and was denied at some point within the last 8 days.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 17:21, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Don't see much evidence of this kind of reversion in the history, and the user has not edited since you gave them their last warning. Daniel Case (talk) 21:59, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Droop quota and related articles
Indefinite pending changes: Persistent disruptive editing – Continuous style-warring and attempts to remove the most-common definition of the Droop quota by an unregistered editor. (Who has kept this up from many different IPs.) IP has repeatedly ignored attempts at explaining this on both the article talk and in a conversation I had with them on my user talk. (The Droop quota is sometimes defined v⁄k+1 and sometimes v+1⁄k+1; user keeps removing or obfuscating the first definition.) Update: unsurprisingly, despite previous decline of page protection because the user hadn't edited for a week or two, they've gone right back to it within 2 days, as they have for the past year—Special:Diff/1269731590.– Closed Limelike Curves (talk) 17:18, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. This exchange between the two of you is complex enough that I am not comfortable granting even pending changes on that basis. I also see very little evidence of this user being reverted on this page or others. Yes, I'd prefer that they engage more the warnings they've gotten, but there's no requirement that they do, and I should note that they have a clean block record. This is the sort of dispute that needs consensus behind its resolution before we can sanction an editor over it, IMO. Daniel Case (talk) 22:14, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – persistent edit warring in the last few days by a new user. Insanityclown1 (talk) 19:55, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. has a moderate to a high level of vandalism throughout its history. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk • contribs) 21:39, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Isabelle Belato 🏳🌈 21:58, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Reason: New user EvandorX created on 16 January, who has only edited this page, is performing large changes to improve the bio and tone down a very long list of (recent) allegations of scientific misconduct (despite their edits, the allegations appear serious and have not been justified I believe). Some of the edits are fine I think, others less. Lots of reverting happening and typos they keep adding back. Happy not have access anymore as IP user as long as more experienced editors can have a look and ensure useful information stays there. Generally not very convinced that this page meets NPOV either, but that's another issue. 81.109.86.251 (talk) 21:43, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Declined, protection is not going to hep in this case. You would need to discuss with the user, if they are not responsive ask for sanctions against the user. Ymblanter (talk) 22:19, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, will do! 81.109.86.251 (talk) 22:32, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. consarn (speak evil) (see evil) 22:39, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Long-term persistent vandalism by IP editors. Apocheir (talk) 23:09, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
Add “by June 30, 2024” to the sentence: The Lancet has estimated 70,000 deaths due to traumatic injuries.[8] Seahumidity (talk) 23:09, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
In paragraph 4 is this assertion: "In private, White House staffers and Biden's family took measures to conceal and compensate for apparent declines in his acuity." There is no source cited for this consequential claim. The "apparent decline" of mental acuity in Biden, a lifetime stutterer, is a topic of contention. Rnperry (talk) 15:10, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
